Apprentice progression at The Expanded Metal Company

We’re delighted to announce that Tiegan Cranney, who joined us as a customer service specialist apprentice in 2022, has accepted a full-time position with the company as sales and service representative.

Tiegan has excelled in all the tasks she’s undertaken and has really embedded herself as a valued and integral member of the team.

Not only has Tiegan been enthusiastic and hard working in her position with the company but she has applied the same hard work to her college course, at Hartlepool College of Further Education, and has achieved distinctions in all assessments and 100 per cent marks across the board.

Discussing her time as an apprentice and her experience at The Expanded Metal Company, Tiegan said: “For anyone debating apprenticeships I would recommend just do it! Apprenticeships are a great way to develop your skills and earn while you learn and can often result in amazing opportunities. Such as how I’ve secured full time employment for a great employer.

“My apprenticeship has helped me develop my personal skills including communication, and my professional skills such as technical knowledge and interdepartmental knowledge.

“Even now, I am always developing my job role through new opportunities to learn about other aspects of the business. Customer service is a broad term, and every employee has a part to play in that to some degree, so it has been interesting to see how each area contributes to customer satisfaction.”

Through her role with the company Tiegan has learnt valuable skills across a range of subjects including GDPR and cybersecurity as well as health and safety.

In her current role, Tiegan responds to regular customer service requests as well as working within the company’s CRM and conducting order and quote entry in addition to managing the live chat functionality on the website and handling phone call requests.

Mark Proctor, head of UK sales and service at The Expanded Metal Company, commented: “From day one, Tiegan has never failed to impress. Her ability to learn new skills quickly and the way she carries out her day-to-day tasks is brilliant.

"Tiegan is a quick learner and a great addition to our team. She has had such a positive impact on our business and has taken on more responsibility as time has gone on.

“To say I am proud of what she has achieved would be an understatement.”

Jo Lloyd, head of people and QHSE at The Expanded Metal Company added: “Tiegan has been an absolute pleasure to add to our team. She has a lovely demeanour, with customers and within the office environment.

“Most recently, Tiegan has joined the newly formed ‘Culture Club’ in the company to help drive forward change and introduce a more social workplace.

“Tiegan has undertaken her college learning the same way as she has her onsite apprenticeship, quietly, all on her own steam and with a focus that does her credit.

“To achieve 100 per cent across the board gives her the distinction she deserves. We’re very proud of Tiegan and can see her progressing in new ways with The Expanded Metal Company.”
