The Expanded Metal Company welcomes back experienced Business Development Manager to grow product sales

Paul Whitton, from Hartlepool, is an experienced sales professional in the manufacturing industry and previously worked for The Expanded Metal Company in a number of roles, over a 35-year period.

His experience includes internal and regional sales roles at The Expanded Metal Company and he previously held the positions of Security Products Sales Manager and Architectural Sales Manager at the Hartlepool, UK-based manufacturer.

After six years away from The Expanded Metal Company working in sales roles for Rockwool Group and gaining experience in fire protection, Paul has returned to the company to support its growth strategy and bring additional expertise to its product development activities.

The Expanded Metal Company develops and manufactures metal mesh products from a 25,000 sqm+ site in Hartlepool, which is an established global centre of expanded metal expertise.

The firm supplies high quality expanded metal mesh products for sectors including construction, filtration, engineering, transport, utilities, automotive, aerospace and architecture. It also serves the security sector and has its own security range, ExMesh™, which offers a wide range of innovative fencing systems and security solutions.

In his previous roles with The Expanded Metal Company, Paul was influential in the development of a number of products including ExMesh™ Securilath™, a security lath designed for installation between walls, ceilings and roofs, as well as Supagrip, a walkway mesh with an exceptional level of grip, making it highly suitable for hazardous environments. He also played a part in delivering the company’s first architectural mesh project at Hong Kong Airport.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul Whitton said:

“I’m really excited to be back working at The Expanded Metal Company as I have a real passion for the team and the firm.

“The Expanded Metal Company has a strong, long-standing presence in Hartlepool that I’m proud to be part of, and has a wealth of expertise which customers can tap into, including design, project management, manufacture and fabrication capabilities.”

Philip Astley, Managing Director of The Expanded Metal Company added:

“We’re delighted to welcome Paul back to the company. With his extensive knowledge of our products and markets, he will be playing a key role in the growth of the business.

“Paul will be instrumental in forging links with end users and contractors, and I’m looking forward to seeing him re-join our specialist team and bring his wide-ranging experience to bear for The Expanded Metal Company.”

The Expanded Metal Company has a rich industrial heritage dating back to 1889 and was founded by John French Golding, the inventor and patentee of expanded metal.

The firm works closely with contractors and end users to create bespoke solutions for their projects, drawing on its extensive design and manufacturing expertise, and high-class production capabilities.

It stocks and supplies a wide range of high quality expanded metal mesh products and offers specialist capabilities in metal work, such as cutting, welding, drilling, punching, shearing and roll forming.

The firm was previously part of the Expamet group of companies.
