As a key political figure driving investment, regeneration and industrial growth across the Tees Valley, Mayor Ben Houchen, plays a central role in shaping the future of our region. His visit gave us the chance to share how we’re continuing to invest in new technologies and contribute to jobs and industry here in the Tees Valley.
We’ve been around since 1889, the original makers of expanded metal, and we’re still going strong today. From our base in Hartlepool, we still serve customers across the UK and around the globe. We also encompass ExMesh Engineering, the brand under which our security and fabrication divisions operate.
Ben was curious to see how wide ranging our work is and was impressed by just how versatile expanded metal can be. It can be used in applications ranging from high security fencing protecting critical national infrastructure to architectural facades plus components used in industrial production environments.
During his visit, we gave Ben a tour of our 25,000m² site, showing him our core expanded metal production as well as seeing the recent investments in laser cutting, CNC press braking, aluminium cutting, and cobot welding. He also explored our dedicated security fencing display area, where we discussed solutions for the rail, aviation, and security sectors.
Philip Astley, Managing Director of The Expanded Metal Company, said: “It was great to have Ben with us. A real chance to show off what we’re building here in Hartlepool, from the technologies we’ve invested into the talent that drives it all. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and the role we play in UK manufacturing, and it’s important that decision-makers see that strength first hand. We’re committed to keeping that momentum going and continuing our legacy of innovation.”
As one of Hartlepool’s major employers, we were proud to showcase the scale of our operation and the value we bring to the region. We believe it’s essential for manufacturers like us to keep the conversation going with leaders to champion the value of industry, innovation, and skilled local jobs and to keep Hartlepool’s manufacturing excellence firmly on the map.
